Ohio Farmers Urged To Plant Within Acreage Allotments
Ohio wheat farmers in 88 counties and corn growers in 68 counties are urged to plant within government acreage allotments for 1950 to qualify for crop support. Wheat allotment totals 2,072,940 acres, down 293,000 from 1949, with a national cut of about 17 percent. Ohio corn allotments target reduced planting to 1,000,000 acres below 1949, aiming for 2,627,009,000 bushels. production goals reflect a 750,000,000 bushel drop. Only six Ohio counties except Cuyahoga and southern belt counties will be affected. No penalties for overplanting. farmers risk loss in a declining market and loss of cash loans. Storage shortages and overseas demand declines drive the policy as government storage facilities limit surplus handling. The Commodity Credit Corporation has 6,232,000 bushels in Ohio storage. 1949 corn storage moves begin after July 31.
