Kurfess hints property tax base could be changed
Columbus Ohio AP House Speaker Charles Kurfess says the Board of Tax Appeals 35 percent base for property taxes is only as lasting as the legislature wants. He suggests a statutory change, possible constitutional amendment for uniform yet varied assessments, and notes penalties for late county reappraisals may not apply. The ten percent homeowner relief could be adjusted if local millage increases exceed ten percent, and a statewide real estate tax base for schools could be debated pending a statewide vote.
