Many Units Can Offer Luxury At Less Cost

A 1970 survey shows mobile homes move as little as the general populace, with cost and space efficiency driving growth. Units average 750 square feet, about $9 per square foot, and luxury models offer quick delivery within six weeks. Expandable layouts and highway rules affect size, while moving costs average 74 cents per mile. Depreciation remains a drawback, with 20–30 percent drop first year and about 8 percent annually thereafter. Financing relies on dealers and group loans. resale can require cash from the next buyer.

Equal Employment Debate Still On

Senate leaders saw little hope to end debate on the civil rights measure after a 59 to 16 rejection of an Ervin amendment to exclude state and local government employees from EEOC coverage. Ohio’s Senators Saxbe and Taft Jr. split with conservatives, while supporters argue the bill enforces equal protection under the law. The fight centers on extending EEOC powers to issue cease and desist orders and cover state and local workers, with debates continuing and a vote to end debate anticipated.
