Uncle Sam to bite deeper in new tax and postage hikes
Washington reports a social security tax rise and postal rate increases taking effect soon. The 3.8 percent social security levy grows to 3.8 for workers and employers with self employed at 5.4, adding up to billions in revenue. First class stamps rise from four to five cents, air mail from seven to eight, and postcards from three to four cents. The moves aim to fund the Social Security system and reduce postal deficits, with further increases planned in 1966 and 1968.

State Farms Must Pay Crop Penalty
Ohio must pay $28,815 in federal penalties for producing excess wheat at state hospital farms from 1954 to 1957. U S District Judge Mella Underwood granted summary judgment to the Agriculture Department, ruling the state liable for penalties although hospitals were exempt from controls starting in 1957. Farm director Homer Gall had argued exemptions applied, but the ruling stands for pre exemption production.
