Ohio doctors and pharmacists report long delays and unpaid welfare bills. A Cincinnati pharmacist cites about 10000 to 15000 dollars owed, while a Franklin pharmacist lists 6000 to 7000 dollars. The state processes claims via a Cleveland tape system and Columbus computer checks, causing cash flow problems for small firms and fears of welfare order cuts.
Robert Canary of the Ohio Department of Welfare says large uncollected welfare payments to professionals exist since September due to a pilot medical program. He cites discrepancies between amounts claimed and amounts allowed, notes $88 million paid to doctors dentists and pharmacists in five months of 1972 73, and calls Ohio a test ground for a nationwide program.
U S bombers pressed saturation attacks against Hanoi Haiphong with fresh losses. Two B52 bombers and a big rescue helicopter were reported down. Six air crewmen remained missing as the air war, intensified since December, continued.
