1966 the year moon missions became real for NASA
Cape Kennedy, Fla. AP summarizes 1966 as the year the moon grew real for NASA Apollo plans. Gemini two man flights and Surveyor 1 plus Lunar Orbiters provided surface imagery, paving the path for Apollo manned flights in 1967 and moon landings in 1968 or 1969. The year saw tragic Gemini 8 and Gemini 9 docking issues, but Gemini 12 proved space walking can be mastered. Soviet unmanned lunar probes also advanced with Luna 9.
