The Associated Press poll names the fall of Vietnam and Cambodia as the top news story of 1975 with 3,629 votes. Second is the Ford assassination attempts, third Patty Hearst, and fourth the New York City fiscal crisis.
Deborah Mackall, 4 year old Candy, and 2 year old Rodell were left in a Queens department store toy department on Christmas Eve. They disappeared after she left them briefly to shop alone. Bloodhound searches failed to locate them as troopers assist.
The Postal Service begins distributing the 84 million 1976 income tax forms to households and businesses, a likely record mailing. Most filers will wait for employer wage statements before completing forms due by April 15, 1976, which include census and personal exemption fields.
Jenny Jones, a 3-year-old Korean orphan, celebrated her first Christmas in the United States with the Jones family in Norristown after arrival from Korea. Immigration hurdles and medical needs preceded temporary entry. the family hopes for permanent adoption as Jenny adjusts with her new siblings.

Columbus police reported a patrol car was bombed on a downtown parking lot near the station at 12:39 a.m. There were no injuries. Authorities offered no motive for the bombing.
FBI spokesman says about 3,700 bootleg eight track tapes were seized in a Cleveland raid. Investigators described the operation as part of an ongoing effort against illicit recordings and piracy.
President Ford's press secretary touted a Gallup poll showing a 5 percent rise in approval, but White House officials later said no such poll exists. An FBI raid in Cleveland uncovered a large tape operation selling bootleg tapes from a West Side store, with no arrests.
The People's Daily in Peking accuses the United States and the Soviet Union of rapid armament races and preparations for both nuclear and conventional war. It says past disarmament accords failed to prevent weapon buildup and notes Soviet gains in conventional arms while U.S. strengths erode. The commentary frames imperialism as weakening at home and abroad amid global crises.
