Forecasters warn of more rainfall and fluctuating temperatures in the Middletown area. Tonight will be cloudy with a low near 32, followed by slightly cooler conditions and an occasional rain on Christmas with a high around 36. The official Christmas high reached 30 at 4 30 p m and the overnight low was 24 at 3 a m today.
In Vientiane the International Control Commission began airlifting 220 neutralist and pro Communist troops for a three day meeting of Laos three princes. Souvanna Phouma chairs a coalition talks agenda with Boun Oum and Souphanouvong to allocate posts.

TREADWAY Tenn AP Mrs Charlie Johns will be 34 when she and her husband celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary next month. She married Eunice Winsted at age 9 in 1937. The couple has nine children on a 65 acre farm and John's says he would do it again.
Claude Amburgey, 38, was shot in the chest and died on arrival at St. Elizabeth Hospital. Police hold his wife Alma, 33, for homicide investigation. Sgt. Zennie quoted Mrs Amburgey saying he drank heavily, became quarrelsome, and threatened her.
Spectacular fires disrupted Christmas in Baltimore Nashville and Groton. Baltimore firefighters fought a six-story wholesale building blaze with eight or more injured. In Nashville the Maxwell House Hotel burned, guests fled into cold air as crews battled for two hours. In Groton a family tragedy followed a farmhouse fire that killed several children and a hired man while Irene Thayer mourned losses from November surgery.
Ohio’s Christmas holiday toll exceeded safety experts estimates with at least 23 deaths over the 78 hour period, 11 last year. Through Sunday midnight fatalities rose near the 54 hour mark before easing to two in the final 24 hours. A snowy weekend and skidding cars fueled the dangers with multiple fatal fires and miscellaneous accidents adding to the toll.
The National Safety Council reports 512 highway deaths during the 78 hour Christmas period, plus 82 fire deaths and other misc injuries, making this the first Christmas three day period since 1955 to exceed 300 traffic fatalities. Severe ice and snow across many regions worsened conditions.
Northville State Mental Hospital received a gift bus funded by trading stamps from over 4,000 people and organizations nationwide. The Hawthorn Northville chapter of the Michigan Association for Emotionally Disturbed Children led the effort, collecting 2,301,000 stamps to reach the needed total, with California stamps among the contributions.
A brutal cold front from Canada sweeps the South after a white Christmas. Florida records its coldest December 25 with lows around 42 in Miami and 27 in Jacksonville, while Tallahassee drops to 24. Frost precautions and farming concerns spread as far south as Florida. Rescue crews reach stranded people near Maryville Missouri as six foot drifts block a pumping station.
In Buga, Colombia, a hazardous device exploded during a worshipers procession near an artillery battalion square. About 50 to 51 killed and over 110 injured as extremists allegedly sought entry to the barracks to steal arms. Eighty suspects were detained. The Red Cross mobilized and a relief fund began.
The Associated Press survey from Friday evening December 8 to Monday midnight December 11 records 347 traffic deaths, 42 fire fatalities, and 7 miscellaneous fatalities, totaling 446. A major crash near Hearne Texas killed five and injured two others.
Cary Smith 28 of Lima was captured in Cincinnati after a statewide alert following a fatal Lima shooting of Eddie Doe 28. Authorities say Smith, held without charge pending coroner results, claims Doe fired first. Two guns found in the car. Doe reportedly threatened a Smith relative.
Mrs. Walter M Campman faces an uncertain future for five granddaughters Judy 15 Rita 13 Mona 10 Sandra 11 and Janet 3 injured in a Warren crash that killed their parents Philip Campman and Kathleen Smith Lloyd Palmer and Kathleen Smith also died. The girls are in fair condition at Warren General Hospital.
