Air Force Maj. William A. Anders noted no optical sighting from Earth yet. Houston planetarium curator Armand Yramategui forecast Apollo 8 could be seen with seven power binoculars any clear night before 11 p.m. EST, appearing a quarter way from the moon toward Venus with slight 15 minute motion to distinguish it.
The Middletown forecast calls for occasional light snow or rain tonight with lows in the teens. Friday brings rain and warmer weather with highs around the mid 40s. Saturday may see more rain and a turn to colder conditions. Yesterday’s high reached 22 and this morning’s low was 20.

An Anchorage report says a Pan-American World Airways 707 jet on a charter mail flight crashed on takeoff at Elmendorf Air Force Base around 6:30 a.m. The crew of three was aboard. fate not immediately known. Flight origin and destination not confirmed though Elmendorf serves routes between the states and the Far East.
BRADFORD Pa A Christmas Eve crash of Allegheny Airlines Flight 736 killed 20 and injured 27 as the Convair 580 struck a mountain while approaching Bradford Regional Airport. Christine Farlow 20 was en route to a family reunion, and sales manager King 52 his daughter were among the dead. Survivors aided by volunteers reported extreme cold and helped rescuers locate survivors and guide them to safety. Investigators dispatched a 35 man team examined the crash site and aircraft origin in Detroit with final stop planned in Washington.
Anthony Erthell Williams, self described minister, turned himself in to Davenport police as Pamela Powers remains missing after being abducted from a Des Moines YMCA wrestling tournament. Bloodstained clothing found near Grinnell. Williams faced with child stealing charges.
