The Associated Press reports a rising death toll in the Christmas four day period. By noon Monday 476 people were killed or injured with 405 deaths from highway accidents, 26 died in fires, and 45 in other accidents across the nation as the holiday entered its final 40 hours.
An Associated Press survey shows 19 highway deaths in Ohio from 6 pm Friday to 6 pm Saturday, plus six other deadly incidents including a plane crash and a fatal fall. The survey notes hazardous weather and drinking drivers as factors and warns the holiday total could rise further.
A cold front moved through the Miami Valley with light snow possible on Christmas Eve. Forecasts call for mostly cloudy and colder conditions today with a high near 42 and light rain or drizzle turning to light snow. Temperatures dip to the 30s tonight into Tuesday. Middletown topped 57 Sunday with a 38 degree low this morning.

Mrs Aue is a social figure linked to a chemical firm.

He said he would not be a yes man and would oppose U.S. positions only when in Japan's interest, and that Japan will deepen ties with China but not establish Diplomatic relations with Red China, branding it an aggressor nation.
At Port Said Egypt the UN salvage fleet including British and French ships awaits Egyptian approval to clear the Suez Canal. Dag Hammarskjold may visit Cairo to discuss use of the vessels as UN volunteers. Wheeler warns the situation is critical and hopes to move equipment into the canal today.
