Continental Grain Co Elevator Disaster Strikes New Orleans
Ten men were hospitalized after a massive explosion at a Continental Grain Co elevator complex in New Orleans. The blast destroyed 45 of 73 silos and the two story control building, leaving many workers missing or presumed dead as rescuers dug through rubble with cranes and hand lines. Attendance at the scene drew families to the levee amid cold wind and a makeshift morgue in a warehouse.
