Catholics and Jews enact joint Chanukkah rite at Queen of the Universe
About 150 people watched as Catholics and Jews formed a Christianized Chanukkah Menorah at the Queen of the Universe Church in Chicago. The Rev Stanley Ryzner said the event aimed to foster understanding and respect for Judaism. Rabbi Gershon Rosenstock noted the eight candles symbolize the eight days of Chanukkah. Nuns sang Oh Come Oh Come Emanuel while a parish assistant state's attorney lit the Old and New Testament Menorahs. The ceremony stressed love and brotherhood between congregations.
