James Hilton Dies of Cancer at 54 in Long Beach
James Hilton, screenwriter and author of Goodbye Mr Chips and Lost Horizon, died in Seaside Hospital Long Beach at 54 after a long illness. He had lived in Long Beach ten years while writing for films and had liver cancer for a long time. Hilton, born September 9 1900 in Leigh England, said Hollywood brought him to America but could not give the feel of it. He helped film the Lost Horizon movie in 1935 and is remembered for Shangri La.
