Monroe man fights cancer and vandalism after surgeries
Vaughn Patrick III, 23, of Monroe, underwent left leg amputation in March and lung surgery in November amid bone cancer. While recovering at his parents’ home with his eight week old daughter Erin Heather, burglars stole a color TV but left Christmas gifts under the tree. His wife works as a nurse at Mercy Hospital.

Senate OKs 55 mph speed limit nationwide
The Senate approved a bill to permanently set 55 miles per hour as the maximum speed limit on all public highways with allowances for lower limits where justified. Screwdriver Charges Dropped in Columbus Airport Case
Engineer Henrich Gusek of Valley Stream New York saw felony charges of carrying a concealed weapon dismissed after prosecutors cited lack of evidence. He was arrested December 6 at Port Columbus International Airport for attempting to board with a screwdriver in his pocket. Gusek seeks expungement and notes his arrest record may remain unless a motion is granted. Airport security detained him after he failed three metal detector passes. He says the tool was left in his pocket after workplace work on equipment at a nearby plant.
