Hamilton Man Jailed in Fildes Case Murder Talk Linked to Missing Witness
Clyde Browning a 25 year old Oxford man and married father of a four year old was jailed in Hamilton for manslaughter in the death of 17 year old Mary Ann Fildes. Browning said the death was accidental claiming she jumped from his moving car after he took her for a ride Thanksgiving night. He said fear of a reported murder talk kept him from surrendering earlier and that he learned of her death from newspapers. Browning identified himself as the man who rode with her from a Hamilton cafe and said they drove out to Beiserger Road where she leapt from the car. Police tied Browning to Miss Fildes at a cafe meet and said he told lies and then feared the consequences. The case involves a missing witness and a long police search.
