Norfolk AP report says Wendell P. Rosso of Giant Open Air Market Inc requires workers to pay their three year poll tax of 4.50 before Christmas bonus. He plans to urge spouses to vote too, offering time off to vote and rides to the polls while denying any voter direction.
In Hollywood three men were arrested and nearly all of the $240,000 ransom recovered in the Frank Sinatra Jr kidnapping. Authorities said the case is resolved and one suspect remains in custody as the investigation concludes.
Blues star Dinah Washington was found dead at 37 in her Detroit home. Police cited unknown cause but suspected a sedative overdose, with an unlabeled pill bottle beside her bed. She had married NFL star Dick Lane last July as they planned a Christmas celebration.
The Soviet Union launched Kosmos 23, the latest in a 21 month old space series. Tass reported the instrument laden satellite orbits about 381 miles high at apogee and 149 miles at perigee, transmitting data on 20.005 megacycles.
