Eight Peace Corps trainees missing in Manzano Mountains
An extensive search continued for eight Peace Corps volunteers missing after a four day hike in the Manzano Mountains New Mexico. About 40 people including state police and forest rangers joined the operation. The hikers began at Belen Thursday with some groups arriving on schedule while others failed to reach Manzano. Names and ages of the missing trainees are listed with a university spokesman noting an instructor accompanied the group but departed to aid an injured trainee. Terrain is rugged with nine inches of snow at the crest and temperatures in the low 20s as searchers probe the area.
