Ohio Pushes Billion-Dollar Lake Erie Pollution Plan
Ohio state agencies push a two-pronged effort to curb Lake Erie pollution with a 500 million dollar cost. Sewage plants must reach at least secondary treatment by 1970, while a 12.5 million dollar reservoir plan expands to western and northeastern streams with 37 reservoirs and 62 monitoring stations. Governors, finance officials, and authorities seek funding via a 100 million dollar bond issue and a proposed Ohio Water Development Authority to finance treatment and industrial waste controls.
