Wreckage of SeaMaster Seaplane Bounty Halted Hunt

Salvagers moved to recover the SeaMaster wreckage in Chesapeake Bay as four aboard the Glenn L. Martin Co jet seaplane and a Navy officer died after an explosion near Balti more. Witnesses saw heavy smoke before the blast, with one parachute opened. The SeaMaster, first experimental model, aimed for 40 000 foot cruising and a 30 000 pound payload for long range minelaying and reconnaissance.

Mother Is Jailed Murder Charged In Cellar Burial

A 42 year old Casper mother Rose Alexander was jailed without bond after confessing to a coroner's jury that she buried Barbara Alexander 27 in the cellar of a Casper home to hide the death believed caused by blows from an unknown assailant. James Alexander testified he knew nothing of the incident until Barbara's body was unearthed.

Girdle-Less Housewife Puts Squeeze On Cabs

An Oklahoma City housewife demanded cabbies return her girdle after her husband said he left it in a taxi near a downtown shoe repair shop. She threatened to sue if not found, saying she needed it to go dancing. cabs were checked but the girdle was not located.

Fire Sweeps Detroit House Killing Six Including Three Children

Six people died in a West Side Detroit frame house fire including Otto Harrison 33 Pauline 31 and two children Geraldine 8 and Dolores 3. Lucille Griffin 34 and her 23 month old Pleas Michael Griffin Jr also perished while Pleas Griffin 38 survived after crawling from a burning second floor apartment. He told police he awoke to smoke, tried to reach safety and was rescued after neighbors smothered his flames.

Covington Kentucky Harold L. Steinfeld 57 was released from jail after paying court costs for drunkenness. He had a live chicken in his car and left without the bird, which police doubt will stay off the jail menu.

Patrol Bomber Down Off Honolulu in Submarine Rescue

A two engine Navy patrol bomber crashed during air submarine maneuvers Wednesday night off Oahu. Ten men were aboard. three were rescued by a submarine. Seven airmen remain missing as seven submarines and four planes scour the flare lit sea about 40 miles northwest of Honolulu. The bomber came from Barbers Point Naval Air Station, Oahu.

Dayton police say Mary Alice Kelton 31 gave birth to a 74 pound boy at home and two days later disposed of the infant in a trash basket used for burning trash. Coroner rules homicide carbon monoxide poisoning. Kelton held for investigation while under hospital guard. The baby appears alive at time of disposal. Russians to Return 600 German POWs Next Tuesday

The Foreign Office said the Soviet Union promised to resume repatriation of German prisoners of war, notifying Berlin that 600 men would be sent home next Tuesday to the West German zone.

Kenneth Alfred Stull of Rt. 2 Johnstown Pennsylvania died when his car collided with another on the Ohio Turnpike about nine miles north west of Ravenna Ohio.

Neighbors Rally For Polio Stricken Ojai Family

Betty and Herb Smith, both teachers in Ojai California, are in iron lungs at Ventura County General Hospital after polio struck them within 24 hours. Their children Debra five and Jody two live at home supported by fundraisers, school donations, and March of Dimes aid. Local teachers and residents organized a raffle and football game proceeds totaling about 2,500 dollars to cover mortgage and living costs as the family awaits recovery.
