Near miss over Lake Michigan as TWA 727 narrowly avoids United jet

A TWA jet passed within 50 feet of United Flight 291 above Lake Michigan near O'Hare. No injuries were reported as both planes landed safely. A passenger noted a ill woman and a man praying aloud aboard the United aircraft. FAA said 14 near misses this year.

Gas explosion levels Seminole elementary school in Oklahoma

In Seminole Oklahoma an elementary school was leveled by a natural gas blast minutes after 175 children were evacuated after a gas odor was reported. Principal Ernest Carter and custodians Carl Donaldson and David Hayworth located a ruptured line while a teacher sounded the alarm. No injuries were reported as the building was ordered razed and fire officials investigated.

Tornadoes Hit Eastern Oklahoma injure dozens in Tulsa

A series of freak tornadoes tore through eastern Oklahoma injuring about 40 people and damaging homes and businesses in Tulsa. No fatalities. 34 hospitalized with seven in serious condition as Red Cross opened aid stations and Gov. Boren mobilized National Guard for relief efforts.
