Fire department faces EMS strain amid budget cuts in Middletown
Middletown's fire department, expanding EMS since 1979, now handles over 3,000 EMS calls annually with 22 staffers. Budget cuts slash overtime by nearly 600,000 and push toward 19-person shifts, risking slower responses and reduced training. Firefighters warn critical non-emergency services, prevention, and community outreach may be trimmed to balance the budget.
