Park rangers in Cincinnati say Midwest winter may be severe based on signs from four large parks. Observations include early butterfly flocks, heavy blackberry blooms, low squirrel nests, foggy Septembers, and wooly bear caterpillars with more black than brown.
Washington reports that Congress may be asked to authorize a gasoline tax increase possibly raising prices to about 60 cents a gallon. House Commerce Committee delays action on Nixon energy bill as busing amendments dominate nearly all session.
