Congress weighs gasoline tax plan amid energy shakeup

Washington reports that Congress may be asked to authorize a gasoline tax increase possibly raising prices to about 60 cents a gallon. Administration forces favoring the move press ahead as Nixon plans a new Federal Energy Administration led by William E. Simon. I 70 Blocked by Truckers Protest Near Cambridge Ohio

Westbound I-70 traffic halted for nearly two hours as truckers protested gasoline prices and speed limits. Ohio Highway Patrol reported about two miles of backing before the roadblock cleared by 9 a.m near Old Washington. Authorities noted the protest mirrored an earlier I 80 disruption in Pennsylvania and involved an undetermined number of trucks.

Mexico's Cortines 82 dies at Veracruz ranch

Adolfo Ruiz Cortines former Mexican president who led the country from 1952 to 1958 and backed women voting died at age 82 after several weeks of illness at his ranch near Veracruz. He was born in Veracruz and began in politics after 1911, later serving as Veracruz state minister of government before succeeding Miguel Aleman as president.

Trucker blockade ties up I-80 in Pa. protest
