Scrap Metal Monopoly Is Ordered Broken Up
The FTC ruled that a Philadelphia scrap iron and steel firm monopolized its field via agreements with U S and European producers. Luria Brothers Inc led as top steel scrap brokers, with named domestic producers including Bethlehem Steel and United States Steel subsidiaries among others. The decision, in a 2 1 vote, orders customers to split business with other brokers as part of the breakup plan. British Railways carries three million passengers daily and hauls one million tons of freight, the world’s busiest railway.
