Five Shot on Cleveland Bus in White-Black Clash

In Cleveland Tennessee five people were shot on a crowded bus in a confrontation between a white man and a Negro. Suspects Jack Bennett of Calhoun and James A Phillips of Charleston, both about 25, face assault with intent to murder charges with bonds set at 5000 each. Bennett wounded in the shoulder. Phillips escaped injury.

Fire destroys new garage housing Lincoln Mercury firm

A new garage south of Pikeville burned, destroying the building and seven cars including a Mercury station wagon and two Lincolns. Bruce Walters, one of four partners, estimated the loss at $180,000.

Six Children Die in Fire in Oshkosh Wisconsin

Six young children perished when a late night fire destroyed the Arnold Carpenter home in Oshkosh. Police say an oil heater started the blaze in the kitchen and flames blocked access to the bedroom where the youngsters slept. The six victims ranged from four months to seven years old. Mrs. Carpenter was at a night job and later hospitalized for shock, while Carpenter suffered burns. The house’s only door entered from the front as the bedroom door was locked for winter.

Ohioan seeks evidence in Georgia slaying case meeting

Four Germans Hanged in War Crimes Executions

A German Navy lieutenant who led the Borkum Island massacre of seven unarmed American airmen was hanged along with three other war criminals. The executions brought the total to 91 condemned in eight consecutive Fridays for the killings of concentration camp inmates captives and prisoners of war.

Paul Sanderson, 37, of Broadway Ohio, was sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of second degree murder in the ax killing of Joseph Couch, 62, of Newark, during a water dispute at the Indianapolis state fairgrounds.
