Middletown youths aged 16 face juvenile delinquency charges for allegedly drafting hit lists in school notebooks. Detective Reese says the lists named students staff and others, found in November. All were cited to Butler County Juvenile Court and suspended from school.
Reported fighting flared along a key highway west of Fallujah as U.S. forces faced a renewed insurgency weeks after a major offensive. November ended with 135 American deaths, echoing April’s toll across the Sunni triangle. Heavily armed insurgents briefly seized nine police stations.
President James Garland recommends to the board of trustees that a new business school be built on the site of Reid Hall at Miami University. The report appears on page A9. A Madison Township mother, Aimee Leonard, 30, received seven years for involuntary manslaughter and two for child endangering after a Feb 4 mobile home fire killed her 7 month old son Justin Johnson Jr. Leonard, who had a low IQ and prior convictions, claimed the blaze was anger driven with no intent to harm the child. The judge ordered the sentences to run concurrently, potentially allowing early release in three years. Leonard asked for psychological treatment.
Middletown mourns 87 year old George Crout, longtime teacher and principal, noted historian and columnist for The Journal for over fifty years. His work documenting Middletown’s past inspired others, with the "Middletown Diary" and later "Middletown Past" continuing after his death on Tuesday.
Hamilton City Schools identified three radio stations WARM 98 WMO 94.9 and WVMX 94.1 after parent Thomas Patrick complained his 5-year-old son learned offensive lyrics from a bus radio. Interim transportation director Larry Lane said drivers may now use only these stations or avoid radio, ensuring content is appropriate for students.
