Nose Cone Blamed In Failure Of Space Observatory
Cape Kennedy AP NASA blamed the loss of the Orbiting Astronomical Observatory 3 on a protective nose cone that failed to jettison after launch. The $98.5 million mission carried the world's largest space telescope and ended when the cone remained attached, preventing orbital speed and causing the satellite to plunge into Africa or the Indian Ocean.
