Ford pledges help at OSU graduation address

President Ford told OSU graduates he will push a new ven ture to link education and employment. He announced a Labor Department grants program to map occupations and channel workers into rewarding jobs and urged Congress to extend hiring laws for vocational and higher education. He urged a partnership of labor and academia and asked Americans to join hands for a brighter economy.

Sudden Tokyo accident near Mitsubishi building kills several

Police investigate a fatal blast outside Mitsubishi Heavy Industries HQ in Tokyo. A speeding car fled an officer’s order as a warning of two hazardous devices preceded the destruction. Two passersby were killed, and many others injured amid shattered glass and collapsed offices including Mitsubishi and neighboring bank. An American woman, Susan Lower, was among the injured.

Ford rules out 1974 tax hike as 1975 program outlined

President Ford will not seek a tax increase this year says Press Secretary Jerald terHorst. He notes 1975 requests may include taxes. Greek Cypriot leader wounded in assassination attempt

Dr. Vassos Lyssarides, head of the socialist EDEK party, was shot and slightly wounded on a Nicosia street. His chauffeur was killed and several bystanders wounded in the attack during a period of political strife following the Makarios overthrow.
