Coast Guard Rescues Misinterpreted Distress Calls
In San Juan Puerto Rico the Coast Guard says many false alarms stem from fishermen in bars or car troubles after Sunday outings. Public Relations Director Seth Finn notes cases where a missing man’s wife reports him and leads to searches that end with a beer or a push. He recalls a Miami man who filed a flight plan to Nassau but reappeared in Las Vegas after five days. The guard operates three twin engine airplanes and two helicopters for air searches.
