Humanist seeks to be Navy chaplain for nontheist sailors
Jason Heap, a 38 year old humanist with Oxford ecclesiastical history training, seeks to become the Navy's first approved humanist chaplain. He has passed the physical and has endorsing support from the Humanist Society, while Congress debates restrictions on atheist chaplains and the Pentagon lists no humanist religion among its 81. Heap would serve holistic pastoral care to sailors who hold nontheist beliefs.
