Edgewood traffic snarls on first day of school

Rush hour gridlock hit Edgewood High School as suspended bus service forces parents to queue on Ohio 73 and Busenbark Road. Officials report heavy congestion from 7:30 to 8:30 am and 2 pm to 3:30 pm as deputies direct traffic and students are released at 2:35 to 2:45 pm.

Carlisle Local rises to effective on state report card

Ohio Department of Education data released Tuesday shows Carlisle Local Schools improved from continuous improvement to effective for 2003-2004, meeting 13 of 18 indicators and scoring 92.4 on the performance index while meeting adequate yearly progress. Edgewood City Monroe Local and Valley View Local remained effective, Franklin City, Madison Local and Preble Shawnee stayed in continuous improvement.

Iraqi minister vows raid on Najaf shrine outcome

Iraqi defense minister threatened a violent raid on the Imam Ali Shrine as insurgent forces near Najaf's holy area. Reports say fighters dwindled after U.S. airstrikes while Muqtada al Sadr allegedly fled or hid, and U.S. warplanes bombed the Old City for a third night.

Amy's Law aims to stiffen DV bond rules in Ohio case

The Rezos family backs a proposed law named for Amy Rezos to tighten domestic violence bond requirements. State Rep. Jim Raussen plans to introduce Amy's Law on August 31, with hopes of passage in the Ohio House this fall. Amy survived two attempted murders by her estranged husband Christopher Rezos, who faces trial on aggravated murder charges. his insanity plea and September 14 hearing are noted. Police say he attacked Amy in a West Chester Township hotel on July 2, posting 10 percent of a $100,000 bond before allegedly shooting her on July 26. The family and Amy’s brother Kevin Jones urge reforms to prevent such releases and protect others.
