In New Hartford Connecticut Dan Burns recalls a dramatic flood night when his horse Smokey, released to escape rising waters, was found alive atop a machine shop roof a mile away. The flood also toppled a long standing steel bridge and a fire house siren as seven lives were lost in the town near Winsted.
Three persons died when a New York Central Railroad train collided with an automobile eight miles south of Elyria Ohio. Identification of victims and accident details were not immediately available.
The weatherman reports sunny conditions today with highs in the 80s and a low near 65. Thursday is expected to be partly cloudy and warmer with highs reaching the 90s. Yesterday's high was 86 at 3 30 p.m. and the morning low was 61 at 6 a.m.
An Amer ican Aviation Daily report claims North American F100C piloted by Col. Horace A. Hanes set an official speed record for aircraft over 800 mph at Edwards Air Force Base, with verification pending. Hanes, from Fayette, Indiana, flew near Palmdale California in trials using new ground measuring equipment.
Four chickens sold for 11 dollars per pound at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia. Jackie Wells of Aurora, Missouri, earned 143 dollars for the four dressed birds after winning first prize in a poultry contest. A feed company purchased the chickens.

An Airman at a South England fighter base fired with two guns, killing three people including an American master sergeant and a Royal Air Force airman. He fled to a beach resort, where British and U.S. officers cornered him and he was fatally shot after a gun battle. The assailant was identified as Airman 2 C Napoleon Green of Chicago.
President Eisenhower told the American Bar Association in Philadelphia that the U S is on a crusade for peace but cannot accept Russia's wrongs in a rush to avoid war. He linked justice and security to Geneva talks and praised John Marshall as a model for liberty and the federal judiciary.

A Cleveland tenement blaze killed six children age from 9 weeks to six years in the East Side Negro district. Victims include VeronIca Murphy and three Murphy children. Cottrell boy among visitors.
