A 20 year old Springboro Navy petty officer, William Michael Humbert Jr., of Middletown and Springboro High School, is listed among 16 crewmen missing from a Navy patrol plane believed shot down 32 miles off Wenchow China by Communist aircraft. Humbert was a gunner and had been in the Far East about three years, with separation due in February. his mother in Dayton confirmed his service. The U S Navy and Communist forces were searching the area near Formosa as reports placed the crash near 1 25 a m local time. The youth had lived in Springboro with his father and stepmother before joining the Navy.
