Judge narrows true threat standard in Nixon case
In a 4th Circuit ruling, Judge J Braxton Craven vacated Ronald Patillo's Nixon threat conviction and ordered a new trial. The panel held a threat to the president requires intent to injure and that mere statements without explicit intent do not prove a crime. Patillo, a Norfolk Naval Shipyard guard, claimed no memory or politics behind the remark.

New Twist In Painting Princesses
London AP reports Princess Margaret at 40 as artist Bryan Organ portrays a severed head in a National Portrait Gallery unveiling. The half-face dissolves under a tiara on a dark gray backdrop with commentary from Tim Lees of Christie’s and Daily Sketch descriptions of a suspended head in a stark prisonlike scene. Organ, 35, says royal portraits have been still too long and this reflects the age. The queen’s sister’s reaction is noted as delighted through her husband Lord Snowdon’s agent.
