Reports from Stroudsburg indicate 29 to 40 people, including adults and children, were at Camp David when Broadheads Creek flooded isolating the site. Police could not verify the count, noting Camp David appeared on low ground and may be connected to a religious group.
President Eisenhower and seven year old David vacationing with family at a Colorado Rocky Mountain ranch both share a playful day. David wears Hopalong Cassidy hat and Western gear while Ike offers coaching as David tries golf and trout casting with junior clubs bought in 1953. The gathering drew over forty newsmen as photos and broadcasts captured the light hearted scene.
New York Sgt. James C Gallagher vows to appeal his court martial verdict to the U.S. Supreme Court after being convicted of unpremeditated murder of two American POWs in a Korean camp. He received life in prison at hard labor with later parole eligibility after 10 years. Prosecution witnesses described him as a camp bully who mistreated prisoners and aided captors.

In Port Jervis New York along the Delaware River flood waters rose yesterday. Austin Crane found a 91 pound pike about 30 inches long in his flooded yard where a pool remained after the water receded with the fish still flapping.
Hollywood reports comedian Jack Benny ends 2314 years on radio to pursue TV. He may rebroadcast old radio shows this fall if CBS agrees on price. Benny will host filmed TV shows every other week and appear in one hour programs as actor or master of ceremonies.
Cmdr. Nicholas Goodhart of Newberry England announced a new glider flight record for distance and destination. He arrived in Amarillo after a 7 hour 40 minute flight from Grand Prairie Texas covering 324 miles. He did not name the previous record holder.
President Eisenhower will receive a first hand report on the Geneva atoms for peace conference from Lewis Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission, during a Fraser mountain visit after addressing the American Bar Association in Philadelphia.

Pennsylvania leads with 41 fatalities followed by Connecticut 30 and Massachusetts 11 while New Jersey and New York report multiple deaths and Rhode Island one. Authorities scramble to aid evacuations as dams burst and bridges wash out in towns like Stroudsburg Waterbury and Woonsocket amid widespread power and water outages.

Richard Carpenter, 26, faces murder and assault charges after a deadly gunfight with Detective William Murphy at a Northwest Side subway station. Police officer Clarence Kerr was critically wounded. Red Bluff Calif PA custody fight loomed today over the 2 year old son whom Airman Daniel Schmidt saw for the first time when he returned last week from a Red Chinese prison. Schmidt 22 filed a divorce complaint against his wife Una 21 who says she married logger Al ford Fine last September thinking Schmidt was dead. Schmidt sought custody of Danny charging Una an unfit mother and extreme cruelty. Her attorney Harold Berliner said Una won’t consent to giving up her son.
A district court divorce filing yesterday describes a property award to the husband as a lawless couch. The court clerk’s office noted the unusual item in the settlement statement.
Senator Robertson voices alarm that Western allies accept Russian peace gestures and cut defense, urging not to drop guard. He cites French troop removals and reduced conscription as signs of laxity, and says US must curb foreign aid while allies boost own defense. He heads to Helsinki for Interparliamentary Union talks.
