Darkness Falls on New York as Power Fails Across City

Little Rock Board Rebukes Segregationists Over Police Action
The Little Rock Board of Directors opposed segregationists after nearly two years of neutrality in the integration fight. It said police acted legally to maintain order as they quelled an anti‑integration demonstration at Central High School. FBI and Justice Department remarks drew sharp replies from segregationists, while a few Negro students continued attending once‑white schools with no incidents reported outside. Attendance across four high schools rose to 2,655 as daily average stands around 3,500 prior to school closures last year.
