Nancy Copley on top of the world as lead designer
Nancy Copley, 10 years out of Pratt, leads as project architect for the $25 million Jewish Institute for Geriatric Care in New Hyde Park. She details her climb past gender barriers, her living-cluster design for six residents per unit, and the facility’s goal to blend humane care with hospital integration by fall 1971. The program pairs private rooms, shared living spaces, a restaurant-like dining area, and self-serve pantries to keep residents connected to home. The institute will be connected by tunnel to Long Island Jewish Medical Center and link with Hillside Hospital for psychiatric services.
