Middletown Board to Vote on Dual School Budgets

Middletown schools face a choice between a $16.1 million budget of needs and a $12.5 million economy budget. Supt. Gene Lubera says the larger plan would require a 7 mill levy on the November ballot, though voters may reject it. The administration argues the $16.1 million budget preserves current quality and future expansion needs for about 15,000 students.

Updating Key To Budget Difference For Middletown Schools

Supt Lubera projects at least three new schools in five years if the 16.1 million budget fails to pass and renovations are deferred. A 1.7 million vocational plant costs with possible 0.31 to 1.05 mill levies plus 0.93 mill operating costs, with state funds possibly covering up to 65 percent. Textbook survey shows many volumes outdated and needs for science and language arts updating reflected in the 16 million seven mill levy budget. 12.5 million would not cover all needs.
