U S command reports North Vietnamese forces shot down a Navy Recon Vigilante near the Chinese border while photographing damage from a raid. The two man crew is missing, marking the 642nd U S warplane lost in the war.
Senator Dirksen and former President Eisenhower defend Johnson's plan to strike North Vietnamese targets within 10 miles of the Chinese border.
