Golding backs moving gym site away from Kent shootings

Kent State University incoming president Dr Brage Golding urged trustees to seek funds to relocate the proposed gymnasium annex away from the 1970 campus shootings site. He criticized the current location and asked May 4th Coalition supporters to push for a 300 foot shift. Walter Pidgeon hospitalized for tests after health concerns.

Twin-engine plane crashes near Wood County Airport

A Parkersburg based twin-engine plane owned by Rambar Aviation crashed one mile northeast of Wood County Airport late Friday night, killing all four aboard. Names are withheld until next of kin is notified as officials reported the disaster.

Veteran balloonist, 81, defies injuries at national championships

Eddie Allen, 81, a parachuting hot air balloonist from Indianola, says he has made 3,253 ascensions and plans to continue until 160. He recovered from last year’s crash, demonstrated with a trapeze and parachute, and notes modern balloons draw growing crowds as nearly 250 balloons enter the championships.

Public TV viewing rises as fund raising seen mixed

A CPB funded study by Statistical Research Inc shows public TV viewing in the past week rose from 36 percent to 48 percent. Awareness of local public TV stations increased to 89 percent, while 93 percent of viewers who see fund raising appeals say they are necessary though 56 percent find them uncomfortable. About 20 percent sometimes skip public TV to avoid requests. 41 percent favor full government funding to end telethons.

Women’s commission upholds election of conference delegates

The national women’s commission upheld 1,442 state delegates to the Houston conference this November after 130 challenges. It rejected fraud claims and said state laws need not ensure ideological or ethnic balance while noting 400 at large delegates will be named. Challenges cited church influence and underrepresentation of single, divorced, and Black women.
