Teen rides 1100 miles with The Spokesmen on Florida to Indiana journey

Tom Clark, 13, rode 1100 miles with the Spokesmen youth group from Cocoa Beach Florida to Shelbyville Indiana. He trained up to 85 miles daily, bought a $150 Sekine bike, and the total trip cost $160 covering travel meals and uniforms. The group slept at churches and was organized four years ago by an Indiana minister's son to use bikes to connect youth with the church.

Rural Health Associates brings first rural care waves to Maine

In western Maine the Rural Health Associates program provides three clinics serving about 30 000 people with free care for roughly 20 percent who live in poverty and low cost care for others. The $1 million federal grant from the Office of Economic Opportunity funds the independent doctors replacement by clinics and group medicine. The program aims to deliver comprehensive health care to a rural population and survived federal cutbacks by another grant. Families like the Hinkleys benefit with free or affordable care and substantial savings on routine visits and procedures, improving nutrition and health for locals such as Grace and Ernest Lowell and their seven children.

California governor may see $60,000 pay rise in new plan

A legislative proposal would raise the governor's salary to $60,000 annually, with top state officials averaging an $8,000 raise. If approved, increases would take effect in January, the first bumps since 1971, and would lift salaries about five percent overall.
