Firemen at Hospital Train as Paramedics in Middletown
Twenty four Middletown firefighters are completing 100 hours of clinical experience at Middletown Hospital as part of a paramedic training program begun last April. They will work in the coronary care unit and other areas, learning emergency care, vital signs reading, and medica terminology. The second semester starts in September with further medical emergencies study and clinic hours, aiming for full certification by April next year. Fire Chief Vic Anvil says the program will place two paramedics on the squad, two on backup, and one on each engine company, fulfilling years of planning to bring the emergency room to the victim.
