Air traffic controllers face higher hypertension rates
A Boston University Medical School study of 416 Northeast air controllers, ages 25 to 49 with 3 to 20 years on the job, found hypertension two to four times common than in the general population. Beginning in 1974, the five year FAA funded survey also noted high off duty alcohol use with more than half of heavy drinkers, though only 7.5 percent had alcohol abuse.
