Revenge Suspected in Slayings Near Portland
A 25 year old woman Margo Compton her 6 year old twin daughters Sylvia and Sandra and Gary Seslar 19 a Coast Guardsman were found shot to death in an isolated farmhouse southwest of Portland. Sheriff St John Vallery said the homicides appear to be gangland style executions tied to Compton s earlier testimony in Hell s Angels cases.

Inmates Take Hostages at Eastern Correctional Facility
Rebellious inmates held 11 hostages for nearly 12 hours at Eastern Correctional Facility in Napanoch New York. No hostage was hurt but 2 prison workers and 3 inmates were injured in an earlier scuffle. Commissioner Benjamin Ward said the inmates sought better food the dismissal of two sergeants action on a good behavior amnesty bill.

Women to fly Air Force planes for first time

Powers Laid To Rest At Arlington In Private Ceremony
Francis Gary Powers, the civilian pilot whose CIA mission sparked a 1960s diplomatic row, was buried at Arlington National Cemetery with military honors after an Army exception. A 15 minute service included eight Air Force pallbearers and prayers as a seven gun salute and taps marked his interment near astronauts Roger Chaffee and Virgil Grissom, and Gen Anthony McAuliffe.
