Army U 21 planes Civil Air Patrol and National Guard helicopters aided the airborne effort as the boy reported seeing search lights and described a pickup truck crash with his dead father during a rabbit hunt.
A Braniff International Boeing 727 carrying 75 passengers and six crew members escaped injury after an in flight tire explosion forced an emergency landing at Dulles Airport. The plane circled for over an hour as foam was laid, then landed safely with all occupants evacuating through exits. The flight originated in Denver and was bound for New York JFK.
