Hoover's Birthday Reflections On Education And Service
On his birthday, Herbert Hoover, aging but keen, worries the U S lags behind the Soviet Union in producing engineers. He cites high school training, algebra and trigonometry as keys to technical schools and recalls his own Stanford prep and early coaching days at California. He champions Boy Scouts work, religious character, and California stays at the Mark Hopkins Hotel while the Hoover home at Stanford is now a university residence.
