Cattlemen Blame Retailers For Meat Price Rise
Washington report quotes Joe Montague of Fort Worth Texas as saying choice beef cattle on the hoof fell seven cents per pound since June 1 while the consumer price for meat rose twelve cents per pound. He argues the increase is at retail and that packers are not charging more wholesale. He says the industry would not oppose controls if the public demanded them and notes ample meat is available to meet near term needs.

Retired Fireman Testifies For Pettibone Club
A Cleveland fire department retiree testified that the Pettibone Club in Geauga County is as fireproof as a building of its kind can be. Louis Pritsch of Parma spoke during an appeal before State Fire Marshal Harry Callan, who ordered the club house torn down as a fire hazard effective July 29. The appeal delays enforcement. The Pettibone, a target of Gov. Lausche's anti gambling drive, closed last month after a liquor raid and highway patrol checks. The Fire Marshal took the appeal under advisement after hearing witnesses.
