After a 220 mile bicycle trek from Lima Ohio two youths Richard Steeves 17 and his brother Joan 15 reach Ashland Kentucky decide to return by train. They endured sunburn and fatigue with two overnight stops including a night at a sheriff's office. They plan to sell their bikes in Ashland and ride home in comfort.
Albany Ga AP The City Commission issued a statement saying it is willing to sit down with responsible law abiding citizens of the Negro community to discuss racial problems. Officials said talks had been held with Negro leaders contrary to claims of refusal and blamed outside forces for intensifying demonstrations.
A light humor item notes a woman grows older when she frets more about shoe fit than sweater fit. The quip playfully contrasts aging worries with clothing concerns.
Sherri Finkbines and husband Robert fly from Los Angeles to Copenhagen and Stockholm seeking an immediate abortion for her 11 week pregnancy amid risks linked to thalidomide. PARIS (RP) The Soviet Union has ratified an international convention against discrimination in education drafted by the UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization. The convention requires signers to prevent discrimination in education based on race color sex language or religion.
A Saturday explosion punched an 8 by 19 inch hole in the Red wall across Berlin near the Friedrichstrasse crossing. Soviet soldiers drove into West Berlin to inspect the damage, pausing at Checkpoint Charlie before returning to the East. An allied official called the event very interesting.
Dayton AP report on the third day of the Pottinger disappearance probes. Police focus on missing babysitter Sherry Van derWiel and a P38 pistol found near the levee. Pottinger, 26, vanished after a city meeting with about $2,100 reportedly on him. Authorities consider robbery but seek motive.
London reports Israel added hurdles to Britain’s plan to send fugitive Soviet spy Dr. Robert A. Soblen back to the United States. An Israeli spokesman said Soblen would be returned to Israel if he left on an El Al airliner, but El Al refused Soblen’s passenger status. Britain pressed Soblen’s departure after Soblen’s appeals to stay failed.
FAA released guidelines allowing pilots to qualify as flight engineers while rejecting Eastern Air Lines plan for a 24 hour training course. The move affects the 43 day old Eastern strike and outlines that pilots must complete at least 60 hours of flight engineer training plus FAA testing to serve as crew.
Alice Jones twenty woman says four men forced her from a viaduct Saturday when she refused their car. She suffered a broken right elbow in a thirty four foot fall and was hospitalized at Mercy Hospital.

Eight year old Michael Lee Mason fell about 75 feet between ledges of Mt. Pleasant in Lancaster while standing on Devils Kitchen. He was rushed to Children’s Hospital in Columbus in critical condition. Boy Scout Michael Rosser aided with first aid and helped carry Mason down.
Saigon government orders all night clubs restaurants and bars closed by midnight in response to an austerity program ban on public dancing. The measure tightens social controls as economic restrictions deepen.
In Grove City Ohio a mass shooting left Cpl Ralph Lanker his wife Virginia Bea and Thomas dead in their home. Ray Lanker 14 died later at Riverside Hospital from a self inflicted wound. Police suspect domestic trouble and note a patrol cruiser was abandoned after the incident.
Paris AP Dwight D. Eisenhower began a six day visit to Paris and spent the afternoon with Jean Monnet the father of united Europe. Accompanied by his wife Mamie and their two grandchildren they drove to Monnet's home west of Paris. They walked in the garden after a two hour lunch and talked earnestly. Mrs Eisenhower appeared unhurt after a mishap this morning when she twisted her shoulder getting from a train.
A 16-year-old Arlington High School junior confessed to police that he killed five members of a Volga family. The bodies of Paulson 44, Lorraine 35, and daughters Karlyn 13 Anita 9 Leanne 6 were found at the farm home eight miles west of Brookings. The youth, held in Brookings County jail, gave no motive and has not been named.
