Kuwait bans Fahrenheit 9/11 for Saudi royal family insult
Kuwait bans Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 claiming it insults the Saudi royal family and criticizes U.S. actions in Iraq. Abdul Aziz Bou Dastour of the Information Ministry said the law bars insults to friendly nations and that the film suggests Saudi interests align with the Bush family against Americans. The decision followed a request by Kuwait National Cinema Co, which licenses all films through state censorship. The Cannes Palme d'Or winner portrays the White House as negligent before 9/11 and accuses Bush of stoking fear to back the Iraq war. The Saudi royal family objections reference alleged flights of Saudi nationals after the attacks, a point the 9/11 commission found no evidence for before airspace reopened.
