Butler County eyes half percent tax for 800 megahertz system
Officials led by Commissioners Charles Furman and Michael Fox push a 0.5 percent piggyback sales tax to fund a county wide 800 MHz communications network after deputy Brandon Roberts was shot. The plan aims to raise about 25 million for upgrades, with hearings and state legislation options depending on lawmakers. Firefighters, police, and life squads back the move amid calls for modernized radios.
