Students tour Sorg Plant on pollution control efforts
Seven students and a Miami Valley environmental adviser joined a Dayton area study tour at Sorg Paper Co. engineer Larry Neal outlined half a million dollars in effluent treatment upgrades plus a 1958 primary facility with a 1500 gpm clarifier and first industry centrifuge. The plant now handles about five million gallons of wastewater daily, producing reusable waste pulp for wallboard and landfill disposal for some material. Sorg plans to convert boilers from coal to gas if feasible, or switch to oil or electrostatic precipitators, while awaiting higher gas demand.
